Hi everyone! I’m Carol from @sewcazual and I’m excited to share my first guest blog for Sew Me Sunshine.
I have been seriously lacking knits in my fabric stash and it’s something that I’ve been very keen to replenish for a while. I decided to choose a fabric that I have had my eye on for a while and that is the Mind The Maker cotton jacquard knit. I picked the Sienna colourway out of the few options available on the site. I was so excited to receive this and loved how soft this fabric felt. It has a beautiful rust orange tone to it and I love how the leaves are weaved into the fabric.
I received 3m of this and I originally wanted to make a very long cardigan, I realised that the fabric width is very wide, measuring at 180cm! And that I could squeeze out more than one make from this. So, I decided that this would be the perfect match for the new Tilly and the Buttons pattern, Pearl cardigan.
This is a short, cropped cardigan with 3 sleeve options to choose from. I chose the long sleeve view, that is cuffed. You can use the same fabric for this. It requires knit fabrics with at least 20% stretch that is mid-weight. Great for cotton jersey’s, velvets and ponte’s as described on the pattern envelope. The fabric I chose was the perfect match! The cardigan asks for approximately 2m of fabric across the views, but I believe I used 1.5m. This will probably be dependent on your placement of your pattern pieces.
It isn’t my first time working with a TATB pattern, but it is my first working with a paper version. The booklet that the instructions were in were written in full detail and photographed well, making it very easy for any sewist, no matter their experience to follow along. The construction was a very straightforward process. It came together under a couple of hours. I cut a size 2 and made no alterations and the fit is perfect.
Overall, this was a very enjoyable sew and a much needed garment that now belongs in my wardrobe. It is so easy to make and fun to style. There will be no doubt multiple versions I will be making from this!
