Jenny's Viscose Saguaro Set from Friday Pattern Company

Hi there! I'm Jenny, the Social Media and Creative Manager here at Sew Me Sunshine. If you've read our blog before you might have seen me on one of the other Team Sunshine posts, if not - hi!

I decided to try my hand at the new Friday Pattern Company Saguaro Set after seeing so many amazing versions pop up on Instagram. Plus I knew I had this incredible Sew Me Sunshine viscose in my stash waiting for the right project to be paired up with.

In my mind this fabric needed to be used for a garment that wouldn't break up the print too much. It's a very large-scale print and I wanted to keep as much of it intact as I could. Luckily this pattern has features such as grown-on sleeves which meant I didn't have to do any pattern matching across sleeve seams.

I decided to use ready-made cotton bias binding for the front top opening, partly because it's easier to work with, but also because it meant that way I had more fabric to use when arranging my pattern pieces on the large print.

I used about 3m of viscose that was 140cm wide for this matching Saguaro set. I think it worked out about 1m for the top and 2m for the bottoms or thereabouts. I made a size XXL with no modifications. I like the low-cut front on the top and I think I'd also like to wear it with either a nice bralette or a matching colour vest. And for the next version, I might place the ties slightly higher.

I'd like to style the pieces separately - the pants with a white linen shirt and the top with some denim shorts.

I really enjoyed sewing this Saguaro set, it was one of those satisfying sewing patterns that seemed (seamed) to come together quickly!

Thanks so much for reading!
