Jessica's Papercut Patterns Estella Top in Atelier Brunette Cotton Gauze
Hey lovelies, I’m Jessica Grizzle from @grizzle_abode, and I’ve made my first crop top.
I was so excited when I saw this fabric. The pattern inspired me and I knew I wanted to make something to wear with it. I chose the Mirage Forest cotton fabric designed by Atelier Brunette. There is a very similar fabric to this one called Mirage Chestnut with the same colours, but it favours the darker blue shade more; definitely one I want to try for another project.
I’ve had the Estella Papercut pattern for a while, and the crop top pattern had these amazing puff sleeves which could really pop with the right patterned fabric. I thought the Mirage Forest would work well.
This crop top was essentially a wrap top with long fabric ties, and I wanted to bring out one of the colours from the pattern for the main part of the top. I used a navy poplin for the main body, and Mirage Forest for the sleeves.
I’ve never really been a crop top wearer, and if I’m honest I don’t know if I am now. However, I brought it to Crete for our family holiday, and I felt so comfortable wearing it in the beautiful Crete sunshine.
This fabric is a semi-sheer cotton gauze, and it was perfect. The sleeves kept their shape enough without being overly stiff, and it was very lightweight which made it so comfortable to wear. It coped well when I had to gather it for the elastic, and was great to work with. I’d definitely use Atelier Brunette fabrics again.
