Despite losing my sewing mojo for a bit I did manage to complete my Me Made May 2017 pledge which I am super proud of. Over the course of May I wore me made clothes for 10 of the days:
- SOI pineapple circle skirt (twice)
- SOI cherry denim circle skirt (twice)
- Blue corduroy Tilly & The Buttons Cleo dress
- Yellow floral SOI ultimate shift dress
- SOI PJ shorts
- SOI ultimate shift top
- Pink denim Tilly & The Buttons Cleo dress
- SOI Betty dress
I also pledged to make at least 4 new me made items, and despite my major wobble half way through the month I achieved my goal. During the month of May I made:
- SOI circle skirt
- SOI ultimate shift top
- Tilly & The Buttons Cleo dress
- SOI Betty dress
It was so inspiring to see other people's me-made wardrobes throughout the month. I pushed myself throughout the challenge, and I have learnt so much:
- I can now sew darts pretty well and I understand how they work
- I have been able to hack & alter patterns
- I have learnt about thread tension due to top stitching
- I have perfected sewing button holes with my machine
- I have inserted an invisible zip (ok so I am not going to tell you how many times I unpicked the zip & how long it took, but it is in and working!)
- I have realised that whenever I watch a video tutorial I will always do what I have watched the wrong way round
- I would really love an overlocker so that I don't have to zig zag and trim all my seams
I am really looking forward to May 2018 because by then (fingers crossed) I will be able to take part in wearing a me-made item of clothing each day of the month. A huge thank you to Zoe Edwards (@sozoblog) for organising such an awesome event.
