Hemp fabric is made from the fibres in the herbaceous plant of the species cannabis sativa and it is often considered an environmental “super fibre”. The Hemp plant is a very fast growing and high-yield crop that produces significantly more fibre per acre than cotton, making it much more sustainable. According to sources Hemp can produce 250% more fibre than cotton and 600% more fibre than flax with the same amount of land. In addition to this Hemp does not exhaust the soil, instead it adds rich organic matter to the topsoil helping it retain moisture therefore requiring less water to grow. It also requires no pesticides, crowds out weeds without herbicides, controls erosion of the topsoil, and produces lots of oxygen.
